Lately the Brains + Beauty team has been developing a slight fashion crush on IT-girl and upcoming style icon Alexa Chung (24). Alexa -who is a former model – sure knows how to dress. She describes her own style as “Something in between a child and a grandmother” and that is exactly what we like. She mixes Luella (one of her favorite labels!) and Chanel with Topshop, American Apparel and vintage with a lot of geek. To create Alexa’s look we recommend finding a balance in between wearing a look and adding your own twist. She always manages to look hobo chic without looking scruffy and geek without looking boring. To create Alexa’s look why not:
- Pair a cute feminine dress with geeky accessories such as knee-socks and brogues (or some geeky glasses) to add a twist to a plain black dress as Alexa has done below, we love the patent brogues mixed with the “vintage washed” outfit:

- Tuck a loose tunic into some tight high waisted denim shorts or a high waisted shirt to create a casual but polished look as Alexa has done below with a cute H&M tunic:

- Pair your cute evening dresses with ankle boots or high heeled brogues to give your classy chic look a twist:

- Who said sandals and socks don’t work! Pair your chunky strappy wedges with thick grey sock, make sure the rest of your outfit isnt too “vintage: to avoid looking too scruffy:

- Pair a pretty and polished (Alexa is wearing Luella) skirt with a band t-shirt, scruffy shoes and tie your belt in a knot (as seen on Alexa and 3.1 Philip Lim). Finish the look with some pearls to sweeten the toughness of the leather:

- Pair a feminine dress and bag (We love this Luella Bow Bag!) with chunky ankle boots and a millitary inspired coat for some edge!

I’m dying to get a pair of those geeky glasses, but i can’t find them anywhere? Any ideas?
Hi, I’m a huge fan of you and your incredible blog! You actually inspired me to create my own one – cocobutterlipbalm.blogspot.com ……….. I was wondering if you could perhaps check it out and comment on some of my posts to tell me what you think of it…….. I’d really appreciate it. I think I actually saw you during LFW around the vauxhall fashion scout area- (i saw the post about you in the style scout blog – with all the clips and i recognised you) i was helping backstage in victim fashion street……. did you watch that show?
xxxxxxxx
I absolutely LOVE that vintage school satchel that Alexa’s rocking with that blue Luella skirt!
Hi Rawnie,
The geeky glasses are a huge hit and were already seen on the Luella catwalk 2 years ago! For your own pair we recommend American Apparel, any type of vintage store (try brick lane/spittalsfield market/portobello market). For a cheaper alternative take some of your parents or grandfathers over sized glasses and replace the prescription glass with normal glass.
