How To Pimp Up Your P.E. Uniform…Without Breaking The Rules!

This article is a follow up of “How To ‘Pimp Up’ Your School Uniform…Without Breaking The Rules!”

Every school offers a P.E. or Physical Education program…which means we all have to exercise. Now a Brains + Beauty loves to exercise because it will give you a nice body (and make all those clothes look just so much better!) but when we exercise we don’t just throw out the style bible and throw on some wide jogging bottoms…we still want to look stylish, and of course practical and appropriate for sports…This article will help you with just that!

For this article we will work with the most basic and most common P.E. uniform: Shorts (usually black or blue),a polo or t-shirt and a sweater. Most schools allow a little customizing…as long as it’s still sports appropriate so first you have to think about the sports you’re doing and the type of clothing appropriate for this. Also you will have to think of some “exuses” or reasons why you customized the uniform. Below some customizing ideas and the reasons why your school should let you get away with it: (For product info email brainsbeauty@live.co.uk or leave comment)

  1. Wear knee socks with different patterns or colors in your trainers. American Apparel offers some really cute ones which are also sports appropriate. Topshop also offers knee socks in a wide variety of patterns and colors. Knee socks will work really well in sports such as hockey and football; wear them with or without shin guards

  2. You can customize your sweater! Put your name on it an embellish with sequins and neon paint! Be inspired by Paul’s Boutique and the jersey of your favorite football club! Don’t put any heavy embellishment such as large gems etc. as these are not really sports appropriate. If your school shows any signs of disapproval just say you always lose your P.E. uniform and this way you’ll always be able to recognize your sweater.

  3. Get inspiration from this Alexander Wang sweater (Modeled by Erin from our new favorite street-style blog FashionToast) by making cut-outs in your t-shirt or polo. Wear a colored tank-top underneath to keep it sports appropriate. This will also give you lots of options and you can wear different patterned/colored tank-tops every time!
  4. Turn your polo into a Ralph Lauren inspired tennis dress by attaching a skirt in the same material/color or take some material (or an old polo) and using your sewing skills turn this into a skirt which you’ll attach to your polo. You can also use an XL polo shirt and belt it a la Blair Waldorf (Click here for more on Blair Waldorf: “Gossip Girl Fashion – Blair Waldorf pt. 1″) for a dress, however wearing belts for sports is not very practical. Don’t forget to wear shorts underneath!

  5. If you have white pieces of clothing in your uniform you can wash these with bright colors such as pink and blue as they will leave your clothes with a colored glow or tye-dye effect. If your school shows any signs of disapproval just say it accidently happened in the washing machine!

  6. Wear cute hairbands (Click here for more on hairbands: “Gossip Girl Fashion – Blair Waldorf pt. 1″), clips and elastics which will not only be super practical and keep your hair out of your face, They will also look super stylish.

  7. If you are doing swimming in P.E. American Apparel offers some amazing tricot and shiny style leotards which are prefect for the pool. Brains + Beauty has tested the shiny style (below, left) and a review will follow shortly!

  8. If you are doing sports which require little running wear Vans or Plimsoles you can accessorize with markers, paint, sequins etc. and wear with printed laces and ankle or knee socks. You can also customize your own sneakers at Nike I.D. with your name and different colors and materials!

  9. If all the above fails just keep it to your sports bag. American Apparel offers really cool metallic bags. You can also use patterned totes or accessorize your bag with flowers, sequins etc.

Stella McCartney has also teamed up with Adidas to create a line of stylish and aerodynamic sports wear which will help you sport and look best. The range is available at NET-A-PORTER.com

  7. I was studying something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your position on it is diametrically opposed to what I read before. I am still pondering over the diverse points of view, but I’m leaning heavily toward yours. And no matter, that’s what is so super about modernized democracy and the marketplace of thoughts online.
